Accounting Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Accounting Specialist is a key member of the finance team and contributes in the areas of project accounting and analysis. He/she analyzes purchase requisitions for adherence to company approval policies and budgetary plans and generates and issues corresponding Purchase Orders. He/she is also responsible for invoicing customers under moderately complex billing agreements, acting as a backup for maintaining and processing the full cycle of Accounts Payable, and performing various general ledger accounting duties.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Analyzes invoices and department spend against budgets, contracts and purchase orders (following-up with vendors and users to resolve issues)
- As a backup to AP, accurately and timely processes AP invoices according to Company policies and procedures.
- Maintains accounts payable subledger and accurate vendor records
- Maintains PO log and ensures accuracy and timeliness of the information; processes PO’s in system and follows-up as necessary.
- Prepares customer invoicing and ensures revenue recognition compliance
- Performs special projects, including project accounting, grant invoicing and reporting
- Performs month-end close activities including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations as assigned, such as fixed assets
- Prepares 1099s and assists with other tax compliance requirements, such as preparing sales and use tax filings
Experience and Qualifications:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration is preferred
- Minimum of three years of relevant work experience
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with a strong attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
- Proven ability to diplomatically and effectively enforce process and policy
- Excellent time management skills, proven in high-pace environments
- Ability to function as a team player
- Self starter who thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Experience in Quickbooks and ERP system
- Proficient in the use of Excel and Word
- Passion for solar is always a plus
May require overtime during peak accounting periods.
