Founder & President, BISEM-USA Sustainable Facades & NZB

Nick has more than 25 years of experience in the design, engineering and installation of building facades.  Nick is both a visionary entrepreneur and a pragmatic leader. The evolution of BISEM Inc. emerged from his extensive work as the President of Bagatelos Architectural Glass Systems Inc., which manufactures and installs large curtain wall projects in the Western U.S.   In 2007, Nick created a state of the art, Net Zero Energy manufacturing facility.  This inspired him to use this success as a model for the potential for warehouses across the country to become more sustainable.  Nick leveraged the core strength of his existing business, the design of large unitized curtain walls and his passion for sustainable buildings to create BISEM Inc., a company that has designed, developed and tested BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic) curtain wall products. Through the design of BISEMs proprietary system and various strategic partnerships, Nick has assembled and integrated a comprehensive set of sustainable façade options, required to achieve a Net Zero Building.

Kerry Hegadus

Kerry, LEED AP, is a master architect at NBBJ, a global architecture, planning and design firm which was named one of the World’s Top 10 Most Innovative Architecture firms by Fast Company in 2014 and 2015. With his feet on the ground and head in the sky, he deals with whole building sustainability with optimism, research and creativity. 

His portfolio includes the design of the Capital Cities building in Moscow (one of the largest skyscrapers in Europe), the new headquarters for Tencent in China (a vertical campus with a self-shading façade concept) and a number of double skin projects that maximize transparency while still conserving energy, including the Suning Headquarters in China and the Seattle Justice Center.

George Loisos

George, is principal of Loisos + Ubbelohde, an architecture and consulting firm that brings research methods to architectural and urban design and specializes in sustainable design and high performance buildings.  George brings extensive design and research experience from leading university research teams, directing programs with PG&E and managing projects for the California Energy Commission, to the firm.  This includes work on lighting, energy modeling, daylighting, energy conservation, natural ventilation, occupant comfort and whole building energy performance.  His projects have received 29 AIA awards, three AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects, and three LEED platinum certifications.  George’s work has recently been featured in Design Informed:  Driving Innovation with Evidence-Based Design and “Transparency: Literal and Sustainable” in Architectural Record.  Recent urban design work has included analysis of solar reflections from high-rise developments in the U.S. and England, a master plan and urban design for NanoCity in Haryana, India and proposals for the vacated docklands of Mumbai, India.

Emanuel Salmona

Emanuel has more than 10 years experience in technology, management consulting and general management. In recent years, Emanuel has become an expert in Smart Grids, Smart Buildings, Smart Homes and the Internet of Things. Emanuel brings extensive technology and market experience from industry market leaders such Siemens, leading business development initiatives, development of new business opportunities and market segments, globally. Within his expertise are strategy, customer engagement, marketing and new product development and application engineering.  As the head of global business development for the building technologies division, Emanuel has cultivated an understanding of what it takes to develop truly intelligent buildings that will positively contribute to the smart grid of the future. He knows how to identify the innovations that can address these demands and the various considerations unique to different regions across the world.  Prior to Siemens, Emanuel was a Commercial and Marketing Manager at Teva for Emerging Markets, a consultant in a large strategy consultancy, as well as served in several leadership roles in the Elite intelligence unit of the Israeli military.

Scott Thomsen

Scott is an experienced innovator and international business leader with a successful track record of generating positive, sustainable results through innovation and engineering expertise. Scott is an investor and adviser in materials-based technology start-up companies that focus on clean technology and advanced nano-materials. He was formerly the President of the Guardian Glass Group, Group Vice President Guardian North America, Guardian CTO and Guardian Director of Science & Technology. Scott was key to leading the Guardian transformation from a commodity glass producer to a provider of value added products and services focused on vacuum thin film coatings, wet coatings, and advanced glazing technologies. Prior to Guardian, Scott held key positions at OIS Optical Imaging Systems (Guardian Affiliate) that produced AMLCDs for ruggedized applications and digital sensors for medical and industrial applications. He also worked for Honeywell Aerospace developing electronic systems for military aircraft, commercial aircraft, space vehicles and satellites. Scott has been awarded over 100 U.S. patents in thin film coatings, glass materials, and electrical devices.

Richard Voreis

Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Consulting Collaborative

As the leader of Consulting Collaborative, a management consulting firm specializing in the construction and building products industry, Richard works with domestic and international clients including architects, general contractors, subcontractors, engineers, building product manufacturers, suppliers to the industry and trade associations.  Before founding Consulting Collaborative in 2000, Richard was COO of United States Aluminum Corporation, where he led the Commercial Products Group’s 16 operations throughout the United States and Canada. Previously, Richard served as President and CEO of Hebel Building Systems, a leader in autoclaved, aerated concrete products, where he had full operating responsibilities for North America including the launch of their $40 million U.S. manufacturing facility.  During a very successful career spanning three decades, Richard was Vice President of Marketing & Sales for the Kawneer Company where he was responsible for all marketing and sales related functions, as well as research and development, and product engineering.  Richard has been active in many industry related activities including the Georgia Tech College of Architecture Advisory Board, two terms on the National Glass Association Board of Directors and on the Board of Directors of the Park Cities Historic and Preservation Society.

Rob Watson 

Founding Father of “LEED”
Former Director and Vice Chairman, USGBC

Rob is an international leader in market transformation and green buildings. While a Senior Scientist for the NRDC, Rob was a former Director and Vice Chairman of the USGBC and founded the LEED system, the world’s largest green building standard. Author Thomas Friedman calls Rob "one of the best environmental minds in America." Rob also is also Chief Strategy Officer to PrimaFilm LLC, a breakthrough insulating window film and EcoHub Inc., which has developed a breakthrough waste separation technology that diverts up to 90 percent of the waste stream from landfills.  Among numerous international awards for his work, he is the 2013 recipient of the International Conservation Award from the Botanical Research Institute of Texas. In 2011, he was a Zayed Energy Future Award for Lifetime Achievement semi-finalist and was profiled on CNN International. Rob was honored for Green Building Innovation by the Chinese Ministry of Construction and received the first USGBC lifetime achievement award in 2002.
