Senior Engineer, Solar Cell Technology

Summary

The Senior Engineer, Solar Cell Technology will play a key role within the Company providing cell technology expertise in both the development of next generation solar panels and refinement and improvement of current products. This position reports to the SVP of Engineering and is located in Fremont, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Study, evaluate, and recommend most suitable cell technologies and structures for use in Solaria modules backed by solid research, simulations, testing, and characterization - with the target of maximizing Solaria cell efficiency and module power.

  • Work with cell partners to ensure cell designs and processes maximize Company’s module performance and improve aesthetics. Prepare concrete proposals and implement cell design and process changes.

  • Develop cell technology/ efficiency and module power roadmap.

  • Review cell design, simulate cell performance using device simulation software, develop correlation between simulated and achieved results, and re-design to maximize cell efficiency. Develop accurate models for simulation at cell, sub-string, string, and module level.

  • Develop methodologies for accurate and repeatable testing of cells in lab and in the production environment

  • Implement comprehensive testing and characterization programs for solar cells to enable study of loss behaviors and discovery of mitigation methods.

  • Acquire, setup, and maintain cell testing and characterization tools and equipment

  • Prepare and present reports to engineering and management teams

Qualifications      

  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Device Physics, or related field, or equivalent experience

  • 10 or more years of direct experience in solar cell design, processing, testing, and characterization

  • Direct experience of device and circuit modeling and simulation

  • Solar panel manufacturing and testing experience is a plus

  • Experience with data analytics

  • Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Team-player who also works well as an individual contributor.

  • Proven success in fast-paced and collaborative work environments

  • Passion for solar is always a plus

    Some international travel may be required.
