Senior Materials Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join our team in Fremont. The role works collaboratively across many other functions in the Company and is key to Solaria continuing to create best in class solar panels for the residential market. The role is based in Fremont, CA and reports to the SVP of Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Research structures & properties of materials including metals, alloys, semiconductors, and polymers

  • Validate existing materials for reliable use in PV panels. Identify and validate new materials

  • Collaborate closely with the Product Development and Global Supply Chain teams to insure manufacturability and cost attainment

  • Identify and collaborate with PV materials suppliers

  • Determine ways to study materials and material interactions to ensure reliable use in PV modules

  • Develop plans for and subject materials and laminates to all relevant environmental and weathering conditions

  • Operate and maintain material analysis equipment and instruments

  • Analyze large sets of data, synthesize information, and devise & implement solutions

Qualifications      

  • M.S. or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

  • 5 or more years of direct experience in PV materials engineering

  • Hands-on experience of materials testing, solar panel manufacturing, accelerated testing, and failure analysis

  • Experience of data analytics

  • Excellent attention to detail and troubleshooting skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Team-player who works well as an individual contributor. Proven success in fast-paced and collaborative work environments

  • Passion for solar is always a plus
