How We Redesigned the Solar Panel

Twenty Years of Innovation

Better Solar By Design

Founded in 2000 when solar energy was still a nascent industry, Solaria was one of the early pioneers of next-generation solar panels and system technology development. Today, Solaria has grown to be an industry leader, holding over 250 issued and pending patents in the field.

Solaria‘s technology platform unlocks the potential of solar energy enabling more powerful and elegant panel designs. Solaria’s industry-leading photovoltaic products leverage proven c-Si cells, that are cut and re-assembled using high precision semiconductor automation to deliver high quality, durability and performance.

Cell-Cutting & Shingling

Solaria was an early innovator of cell cutting technologies and next-generation “shingled” solar panels. Cut-cell technology allows for higher power density and efficiency of the solar panel. The ground-breaking shingled solar technology in which solar cells are cut, overlapped (shingled), and more densely packed into the panel creates a substantially higher-power, higher-efficiency panel than conventional solar panels. Shingling allows the panel to be more flexible and adapt to environmental stressors like wind, rain and snow, contributing to the superior efficiency and longevity of the panel. Our proprietary shingling technology enables Solaria to achieve a unique all-black look to its panel by hiding the visible circuitry under the overlapped cells.

PowerXT Technology

After years of R&D, Solaria introduced the PowerXT® premium solar panel to the market in 2016. The PowerXT  is a more energy efficient, durable and beautiful looking solar panel all thanks to Solaria's innovative shingled technology. It is a high-performance, high-density module (“HDM”) that produces up to 20% more power than a conventional solar panel. With Solaria PowerXT, you can put less panels on your roof and still meet your energy needs. With its Pure Black™ design, the PowerXT solar panel can also enhance the appearance of your home.

PowerX Technology

The PowerX performance solar panel features a half-cut cell design using next-generation M10 solar wafers. This technology increases the energy output of solar panels by reducing internal resistance losses, especially important with today’s high current solar cells. The split panel design further allows for the top and bottom half to operate independently, generating energy even if one half is shaded.  PowerX brings utility scale solar power technology to residential rooftops with ultra-reliable high-power solar panels.
